Chamotte, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Mutina, celebrates the raw, tactile beauty of ceramics through richly layered textures and pure, expressive colour. Inspired by chamotte, a traditional mixture of crushed ceramic fragments blended into raw clay, this collection highlights the “brutal and natural beauty” of ceramics with surfaces that shift visually and tactilely at every glance.
The collection is composed of three modules — Mono, Linea, and Quadra — each crafted in a compact 7.2 × 21.3 cm format.
Mono is smooth yet nuanced, with irregular glossy texture.
Linea features continuous raised lines across the full length of the tile.
Quadra interrupts this rhythm with sculptural cusps, adding dimensional variation.
Chamotte is available in six vibrant colours — Bianco, Blu, Terra, Ocra, Nero, and Verde — all featuring an artistic glossy glaze reminiscent of handcrafted ceramic finishes. These richly pigmented glazes enhance the tiles’ tactile irregularities and create dynamic reflections across the surface.
Designed for indoor wall applications, Chamotte is ideal for expressive residential and commercial interiors. Whether used tone-on-tone or in bold chromatic contrasts, the tiles create vibrant, articulated installations that celebrate material craft, colour, and texture — the essence of Urquiola’s design philosophy.
