Chymia, designed by Laboratorio Avallone for Mutina, reimagines the expressive power of black and white through a bold exploration of graphic gesture, material texture, and alchemical transformation. Inspired by the “metamorphosis of matter,” Chymia merges the disciplines of painting, sculpture, and mark-making into a contemporary porcelain series that rejects classic motifs in favor of originality and emotional depth.
The collection comprises 11 distinct textures — from soft irregular fields to dynamic grids, petals, dots, and abstract strokes — each created to evoke shifting patterns of light and shadow across the surface. These textures come in both Black and White, plus four curated mix variants that combine multiple graphics into a ready-to-use patchwork. The intention is a “never-repetitive laying effect,” where subtle differences between tiles enhance authenticity.
Crafted in rectified glazed porcelain stoneware, Chymia offers the durability required for residential and commercial floors and walls, indoors and outdoors. Its 30×30 cm format lends itself to endless modular layouts — checkers, stripes, random compositions, graphic carpets, and sculptural wall surfaces.
Chymia is both architectural and expressive: a monochrome language that celebrates contrast, tactility, and artistic experimentation.
