Jali, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Mutina, reimagines the traditional Indian jali screen — perforated stone lattices with geometric motifs — into a contemporary architectural element made from artisanal extruded terracotta. Simple in form yet sculpturally expressive, each block features a circular void and softened edges, allowing light, air, and shadow to interact across the surface.
Produced in a substantial 24×24×12 cm 3D module, Jali offers remarkable versatility. The block can be installed vertically or horizontally, in aligned or staggered arrangements, enabling endless combinations of filtration, rhythm, and transparency. Jali can create everything from architectural partitions and feature walls to curved compositions and furniture-like structures.
The collection is available in three colours:
Neutro — natural terracotta
Nero — black glossy finish
Bianco — white glossy finish
Suitable for both residential and commercial spaces, indoors and outdoors (F1 moderate exposure), Jali balances material warmth with geometric purity. Complementary painted wooden profiles and Mutina eco-friendly adhesive ensure secure installation and refined detailing.
A poetic interpretation of a historic architectural typology, Jali brings a sculptural, modular, and atmospheric quality to modern spatial design.
