Kosei, designed by Vincent Van Duysen for Mutina, draws inspiration from lava rocks, obsidian, and volcanic glass—materials known for their density, tactility, and timeless beauty. Made using extrusion technology, Kosei has a velvety matte surface with subtle irregularities that evoke the raw, mineral quality of volcanic stone.
The name Kosei means “composition” in Japanese, reflecting the collection’s modularity and architectural intent. With eight formats and five natural colours, Kosei can be installed in countless layouts—from calm, homogeneous fields to rhythmic, graphic patterns. Linear planks, square modules, and a striking Chevron 9.6×56.5 cm floor element allow designers to create rich directional effects and dynamic compositions.
The collection is engineered for flooring, both indoors and outdoors, but its refined matte texture also suits expressive wall applications. With excellent slip resistance (R10 / DCOF 0.84) and near-zero water absorption, Kosei performs in both residential and commercial settings while maintaining a minimalist, architectural aesthetic.
Timeless, tactile, and highly versatile, Kosei embodies the purity of ceramic material and the rigor of Van Duysen’s design language, ideal for contemporary interiors seeking natural depth and quiet sophistication.
